Japanese Foliage
I created these designs after being inspired by Japanese-style prints. Here’s a few examples of how I’ve used the designs from the Japanese Foliage Set. You will find download instructions for the Brushes, Illustrator Vector Art, and PNGs below the images.

There are 30 Brushes in this set. This set is available for $14.99 The brushes work with Photoshop CS and above. Anything before CS will require using the PNG files below.

The original vector files for this set are available for $12.99. You must have vector editing software (such as Adobe Illustrator, or Macromedia Freehand) to edit this file. Included in this download is an AI, and an EPS file compatible with Adobe Illustrator version 8 and above.

For those of you using earlier versions of Photoshop or other editing software I offer a nicely zipped file of all 30 PNG files from this set. This set is available for $14.99

I’m starting to run out of things to say about these brushes. Fantastic work man, they just seem to get better and better man. It feels like a sin that you give them away for free.
Keep up the amazing work.

18/01/2007 at 9:10 am Permalink
Thanks for keeping these brushes free for designers!
Good luck with the extended licensing program.
I hope to ever get a chance or creative outlet to use these sugar babies…
18/01/2007 at 12:02 pm Permalink
Thanks for using them. Extended licensing is working well so far. I depend on the fans to keep an eye out for illegal usage. Thanks to everyone who has pointed out suspicious usage and stock sites with my brush designs for sale.
18/01/2007 at 3:03 pm Permalink
Really nice work, thanks 4 the sharing from Bolivia!!
18/01/2007 at 3:04 pm Permalink
I have Elements…can I use these brushes?
18/01/2007 at 3:39 pm Permalink
Megan, you can try. If they don’t work you should be able to open the png files and convert them to brushes 1 by 1. I don’t know elements, but I assume they have brushes. I don’t know for sure if this is correct, but I’m thinking you could do it like this:
1. Open one of the PNG files in Elements
2. Choose Edit > Define Brush Preset
3. Then you will have a new brush in your brushes palate
18/01/2007 at 4:49 pm Permalink
These are great, fantastic work once again. I did a post about this on my blog to spread the word-
http://www.neublack.com/art-design/359
18/01/2007 at 5:27 pm Permalink
Megan~ i’m using Elements for now and the work just fine putting the abr file into hte preset/Brush file then open up Elements and it should be in your pull down window. All that to say I’m using 4.0 on a Mac… But I’d assume anything higher would support brushes. HTH
18/01/2007 at 5:36 pm Permalink
Thanks Melibelle. sounds like you know more about it than i do.
18/01/2007 at 9:00 pm Permalink
No, no, Jason thank YOU!
These are so lovely. It’s almost a sin that you’re just giving these away. Almost! (wink wink).
But seriously - stunning, thank you.
18/01/2007 at 10:02 pm Permalink
Oh wow. I am just wowed by these beauties. I love japanese theme. And so nice that you amde png files of them too. You are so generous and talented. Love your work!
19/01/2007 at 1:08 am Permalink
it’s not that imressive to know more about stupid elements… oh I can’t wait for the day I have the real thing!!!
19/01/2007 at 9:35 am Permalink
I read the Terms of Use but correct before I’m doing something wrong - I would like to use the brushes in the future to create WP themes distributed by me - but not for sale, but for free.
Will that be ok?
PS- I would love to see some downloadable WP themes from you. You’re obviously very talented :)
19/01/2007 at 11:14 am Permalink
It is okay to use the brushes in WP themes not for re-sale. Thanks for asking.

19/01/2007 at 6:15 pm Permalink
Those are really beautiful.
I would love to read or see a bit of description about how you went about making or designing those. I’ve tried several times to do similar patterns in Illustrator but can’t get the vectors to “flow” anywhere near this nicely.

By the way, I downloaded the PNG package as well, and something’s wrong with it. Am I the only one who noticed it?
20/01/2007 at 3:37 am Permalink
Incredibly fantastic, and for free! I am going to be playing with these for a long time!
20/01/2007 at 11:19 am Permalink

20/01/2007 at 12:31 pm Permalink
Wow! Thanks for sharing your awesome work!
20/01/2007 at 3:16 pm Permalink
Sarit,
Thanks for bringing this to my attention. I tried to download the PNGs as well and had a problem extracting the zip file. Sometimes it’s a matter of making sure they are completely downloaded before trying to unzip the file, but I think there was simply a corruption in the file this time. I’ve since uploaded a new version of the PNGs. Hopefully this will solve the problem. Let me know if there are any further problems with them. Thanks everyone!

Awesome brushes. I adore both kits :)
Just making sure that you know that your brushes are being re-sold on a digital scrapbooking website. If you already know, then other people who like the tattoo brushes should check this out, it’s a pretty cool digital kit. http://ndisb.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=772

Nice work. I do hope you realise that’s very easy to live trace them to get the vector stuff :)
28/01/2007 at 5:13 pm Permalink
Cristian, perhaps it is, but the vector stuff has the complete pieces of original artwork. The photoshop brushes are flattened layers of cropped images from the original set. So I see what you’re saying but you’re misunderstaning what the vector set is.

I used a few of your brushes on a piece recently. It´s at http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/48224167/, in case you wanted to see it.

Cool stuff, you should add it to brushfruit if you haven’t already.

Wim,
Thanks for letting me know. I believe the sidebar feeds are working correctly…they are running through feedburner.
As far as the RSS feeds on the footer. I think I’m just going to remove those.

I must be seriously thick. I cannot figure out how to install these brushes on PS7. Arrgghhh! They are so gorgeous but I’ve hit a brick wall and no amount of googling is helping me.
Sigh.
09/02/2007 at 3:45 pm Permalink
JChevais,
They don’t work with 7. You will have to use the PNG files and create your own brushes from them.
Thanks.

These are absolutely gorgeous! I’ve been dying for these kind of brushes. Thanks a lot.
I have a question. I read your terms of use and I would like to know whether using these brushes in designing a high school magazine/yearbook is allowed. I would appreciate a reply very much and hope to see more of your talent soon.
13/02/2007 at 9:25 am Permalink
JGaylor,
That’s actually what i don’t understand how to do. I opened the png in PS7 and PS7 won’t let me upload them/charge them/whatever and I was wondering if there is an added “thing” I have to do or whether I’ll just have to give up.
Thanks for taking the time to respond tho.
Cheers.

These brushes are really awesome, but I use Adobe Photoshop 4 (:-( can I still use the PNG files in this version? If I try to open them, all I get are all black boxes. I am sorry to bug you will this, if there is a tutorial about using these files, and you could just steer me to it, I would be very grateful.

Jason, your brushes and art are incredible ! Just purchased the japanese foliage for Illustrator, as well as your brushes. As a newbie to CS2, i wondered what the difference is on the use of the ( PS) brushes in Illustrator ? Is that not possible, which is why the vectors are used in Illustrator instead.
Keep up the great work !
